Andrea Consigli admits that he’s angry that Sassuolo are where they are in the Serie A table despite being able to beat Inter Milan.

The 37-year-old Neroverdi goalkeeper spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after his team’s surprise victory over this season’s champions.

Sassuolo gave themselves a big boost in their bid to stay in Serie A against Inter.

Playing against a team who had already clinched the title, the Emilian side got a 1-0 victory.

It was the first time in 28 matches that Inter have tasted defeat in Serie A. And it was the first time in 42 matches that they have failed to find the scoresheet.

And, ironically, the last time that Inter had lost in the league, had been against Sassuolo in the fall.

The Neroverdi have undeniable “bogey team” status for Inter.

And that has been on full display this season.

Not least in the fact that, apart from their two big wins against Inter, Sassuolo’s form has largely been dreadful.

The result of this is that, even with the three points against Inter this evening, the Emilians are still in the relegation zone in the Serie A table.

Consigli Angry Sassuolo Can Beat Inter But Still Be In Relegation Zone

Sassuolo will have a lot of reason to celebrate after their victory over Inter.

But it may leave one or two lingering questions – why can the Neroverdi always seem to raise their level when they face Inter (or some of Serie A’s other heavy-hitters) but not maintain it against direct rivals in the bottom half of the table?

After the match, Consigli said that “I’m exhausted.”

“I can’t even celebrate because it was like we played 4-5 matches today.”

“It was so long. It seemed like it would never end.”

“We won a vital match by fighting for every ball. It gives us a bit of breathing room, it keeps us alive. But unfortunately, or fortunately, we still have three matches to go.”

“We’re second from bottom in the table,” Consigli said.

“It doesn’t matter who we beat here. On the contrary – it makes it all the more regrettable that we’ve beaten the bigger teams and then not gotten the wins against our direct rivals.”
