AC Milan are confident that they can overcome the competition from Arsenal and win the race to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, according to a report.

As we reported earlier in the week, Milan have identified Zirkzee as the number one target for the summer transfer window with each member of the management in agreement that he is the right centre-forward for the future regardless of who arrives as the head coach.

Calciomercato.com have published an update which states that Milan are optimistic about the negotiation for Zirkzee, but also aware that there are many variables which are not always controllable.

The work done so far on the operation puts Milan ‘in a great position’ and they are planning to trigger the €40m release clause in his deal as early as June. First, however, Zirkzee will give the green light to the operation.

At present, the most dangerous rival in the Zirkzee race for Milan is Arsenal. The Gunners’ interest is very much concrete as are the excellent relations with Kia Joorabchian, an Iranian agent who looks after the Dutchman’s interests.

Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have learned that Zirkzee would rather join the Rossoneri, but now they must find an agreement with his entourage to ensure that optimism becomes pen on paper.
