Penguins Top Prospect to Represent Team Canada at World Juniors
USA TODAY Sports

One of the most popular hockey tournaments is right around the corner and the Pittsburgh Penguins will see one of their top prospects represent his home country.

It was announced that Penguins prospect Brayden Yager will play for Team Canada at the upcoming tournament set to take place in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Yager has been putting up phenomenal numbers with his Western Hockey League team the Moose Jaw Warriors.

After a successful run with the Penguins at their professional training camp, Yager was sent to the WHL where he has scored 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 total points in 28 games.

Yager’s 41 points are good for second on the team behind only Seattle Kraken prospect Jagger Firkus who has 53.

The Warriors have a pair of players heading to Sweden to represent Canada, Yager and their captain Denton Mateychuk.

The Penguins drafted Yager at the 2023 NHL Draft with the 14th overall pick.

Yager may not be the only Penguins prospect playing for their country as recent defensive draft pick Emil Pieniniemi was part of Team Finland's preliminary roster.
